Duke Summer Reconciliation Institute

The Center for Reconciliation at Duke Divinity School has extended a special invitation to Bridgefolk to participate in a week-long training workshop May 31 – June 5. Three Bridgefolk leaders took part in a conference at the center last year and found it be a meaningful opportunity to explore the challenge of reconciliation at many levels — international, racial, and ecumenical..

Held at the Duke University Divinity School in Durham, NC from May 31 – June 5, 2009, this intensive Reconciliation Track is open to 100 participants only, engaging a leading faculty of practitioners and theologians

Faculty and Focuses–Theological, Contextual, and Practical: The Reconciliation Track is grounded in a distinctively Christian “word made flesh” vision and framework. Birthed out of the Center for Reconciliation’s mission to form and strengthen Christian leaders in the ministry of reconciliation, this in-depth learning opportunity reflects the strengths of its faculty, who will include: John Perkins, Emmanuel Katongole, Chris Rice, Therese Lysaught, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, John Swinton, Greg Jones, Sam Barkat, Jin S. Kim, Mary Nelson.

What You Can Expect: This one-of-a-kind, weeklong experience is designed to nourish, renew, and strengthen the capacities of Christian leaders in the ministry of reconciliation, peace, and justice both in U.S. and other global contexts. Through in-depth teaching and learning, journeying with a cohort throughout the week, prayer and worship, shared meals, wrestling with real contexts and challenges, and reflection on your vocation and setting, this will be an absolutely unique opportunity to join an invigorating learning community.

Who Is Right for the Program: Christians engaged in grassroots ministries and social agencies, congregations, pastoral leadership, global contexts of mission or social division, the university/seminary, parachurch ministries, social entrepreneurship, denominations. We strongly encourage cohorts from communities, churches, ministries, and institutions to come together.

Benefits of the Duke Divinity School Summer Institute: The Reconciliation Track is one of three tracks within a new Summer Institute offered by Duke Divinity School. While having distinctive objectives, curriculum, participants, and faculty, the track will also intersect with the other tracks with some shared plenary sessions featuring world-class practitioners from the arts, business, and medical fields to expand and refresh our imaginations for leadership and Christian transformation.
